Office 2016 defaults to Times New Roman

less than 1 minute read

Every time I installed Office 2016 (from Office 365) the default font was Times New Roman instead of Calibri. After trying many things to fix this (and manually editing all the styles is way too much work) I found the solution.

  • Open “Office 2016 Language Preferences” (search for it using the start menu)
  • You probably have a “weird” default editing language set, choose a common editing language as default
    Office set language
In my case I chose “English (United States)” instead of “English (Netherlands)”
  • You may need to remove Office’s default templates, located in %AppData%\Microsoft\Templates
  • Done!
